Ellis M. Forshee Award Presentation

A group of people is gathered in a restaurant with wooden beams on the ceiling and brick walls. They are standing in a line, smiling at the camera. The person in the center is holding a plaque. The group includes a mix of men and women, some of whom are holding white canes, indicating they may be visually impaired. In the foreground, there is a long dining table set with black tablecloths, glasses of water, a glass of beer, plates with bread rolls, and lemon wedges. The table also has cutlery and napkins neatly arranged. The atmosphere appears to be warm and friendl.

Cheers to advocates who use their power and position to improve the social landscape for those experiencing low to no sight. MCB was proud to present this award to Missouri State Representative Yolanda R. Young. You can download the Thank You letter from Representative Young. In times of crisis, community means everything. That’s why the Missouri Council of the Blind has created the Emergency Disaster Relief Fund—to be a source of hope and support when our members need it most. When natural disasters strike, we know that those who are blind or visually impaired often face additional challenges in accessing resources and recovery aid. Through this fund, we are offering gift cards to eligible individuals who have been directly impacted by a declared emergency. Each blind person or MCB member within the affected area may receive one card after completing a simple application form. It’s our way of standing together, providing practical help, and reminding one another that we are never alone in the storm. Together, we are seeing the world in a different light.
