4-Rivers Council of the Blind

MISSION:
The purpose of the 4-Rivers Council of the Blind shall be to promote the
well-being of all legally blind people in our own area. We shall also to the
best of our ability, educate, encourage and assist in any area all such
persons whenever possible.

The 4-Rivers Council of the Blind serves the blind and visually impaired residents and their families and friends of Franklin and surrounding counties.

We strive to educate those that have either lost their sight or may be in the process of losing it and have no idea of where to turn. There are many services and programs throughout the state of Missouri and the nation that offer assistance and products that will help the blind and visually impaired to live a more independent life, and the 4-Rivers Council of the Blind is here to inform our members of these services.

We advocate for those services and programs on a local, state, and national level. Through the assistance of our parent organization, the Missouri Council of the Blind, we keep watch on legislation and bills that will affect the blind of Missouri. Annually, we travel to our state capital in Jefferson City and to our nation’s capital in Washington, DC to advocate for the blind and visually impaired on several issues.

We want the blind and visually impaired to be liberated and not feel as though they need to be confined to their home in fear of going beyond those boundaries. With the advancement of technology, many tools have been developed to allow a blind person to travel more safely and independently. The 4-Rivers Council of the Blind shares that technology with their members with monthly conference calls and an announcement email list-serve with valuable information that applies to technology resources.

The 4-Rivers Council of the Blind meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM CDT via the Zoom platform. Our annual membership dues are $20.00, and this also includes membership in the Missouri Council of the Blind.
