size=3><STRONG>The Senate</STRONG> will hold what should be some interesting
meetings on Tuesday morning.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>They
will break up into working groups with the assigned task of each coming up with
five ideas on how to remake Missouri government.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>For the past week, the Senate website
has had a "rebooting government" section where citizens could send in ideas on
how to make government smaller.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>Several hundred budget cutting ideas were sent in and will be passed out
to the <SPAN class=113560823-18032010>working </SPAN>groups.</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=3><FONT
face=Verdana> <o:p></o:p></FONT></FONT></P>

goal is to come up with around $500 million in cuts from the <SPAN
class=113560823-18032010>proposed</SPAN> 2011 budget.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The groups will be meeting at 9:00 on
Tuesday<SPAN class=113560823-18032010>, March 23rd</SPAN>.<SPAN

House side, Rep. Storch's bill is scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday, March
24th at 5:00 p.m. in the Senior Citizen Advocacy Committee in Hearing Room
1.</FONT></P>

face=Verdana> <o:p></o:p></FONT></FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face=Verdana size=3>The
bill would require that certain universal design standards would have to be
followed for the construction and rehabilitation of "affordable housing
units".</FONT></P>
<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face=Verdana
size=3>"Affordable housing units<SPAN class=113560823-18032010>"</SPAN> are
defined in the bill as a residential structure in which a person earning no more
that 115% of the county median income could afford if spending up to 29% of his
or her gross annual income on the housing.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>The bill sets up specific standards for different elements of the home
and prohibits exceptions to four basic elements:<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>one no-step entry; minimum floor and
hallway width requirements; provisions for usable bathroom facilities; and at
least one bedroom on an accessible level connected to an accessible
route.</FONT></P>
