During our next meeting of the
romance discussion group, we will discuss one of the loveliest novels written by
Luanne Rice. Eventually turned in to a television movie for Hallmark, Follow The
Stars Home takes us in to the life of a single mother and her disabled daughter,
Julia. Like most mothers, Dianne Robbins can't wait for the
birth of her first child. In love with handsome Tim McIntosh, her
life is filled with the hopes and dreams all mothers share.
When tests reveal their child will be born with a severe
disability, Dianne's world changes, and in the aftermath everything
she hopes for vanishes. Tim, with troubles of his own, leaves Dianne
for the sea thinking he will find a calmer life there. How will this mother
cope? Should she keep her child? What other options does she have? What would you
do if faced with the same situation? How much should a mother sacrifice for her
child, for her marriage? Can a mother sacrifice too much? As her Julia grows,
ever present is the knowledge that she may not live very long. How does
one decide that a life is worth living? Is it a decision any
of us can ever make in relation to another person? Julia may die, but
Dianne loves deeply as only a devoted mother can. As Dianne and Julia create a
life together, this mother meets challenges she never expected to face and
learns that love is much less about what we say than
what we do. With a life full of the responsibilities of single
motherhood, will it be possible for Dianne to love again? When trust and
innocence are shattered, can they ever be refound? If innocence
cannot be recaptured, can the love gained be richer
and deeper than before.
