Hailey epitomizes everything that The Independent Living Center stands for. In
his own life, he has overcome obstacles to independence and learned to adapt to
his own circumstances. He has thought outside the box and has worked to
achieve a great deal in his life, a life that has a lot of service still ahead.

<p class=MsoNormal><span lang=EN style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>At
the Independent Living Center, Chip works hard to ensure that each individual
seeking service has the opportunity to live their life as independently as
possible. Chip is often the first person that potential consumers and their
family members talk to. He listens to their stories and helps them figure out
what will best suit their needs. He is compassionate and encouraging. He
works as an advocate for people who are blind or visually impaired. He is a
community educator, raising awareness about his disability. Chip serves on
several boards, reaching beyond southwest Missouri to impact services and
legislation nationwide. He is the current Education and Welfare Chairperson
for the Missouri Council of the Blind, a member of the Wolfner Library Advisory
Council, and a member of the Missouri Assistive Technology Advisory Council,
among others. He is considered a technology guru on all the councils and
committees that he participates in. Whenever someone needs assistance, Chip is
one of the first people that they call on asking for advice. Chip has worked
at The Independent Living Center for 13 years. He always has a smile on his
face and is always ready with a story to make us laugh. While his title is
Intake Specialist, Chip prefers to be called the “Mighty King of
Cool”. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
