Seminars at Hadley Presents: Have You Looked in the Kitchen Drawer? (A Process/Sensory Approach to Rehabilitation)

        Date: Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Time: 10:00 AM CDT, 15:00 GMT
We all need to be equipped with a set of techniques for performing skills common to clusters of life activities no matter what task or tasks we need to perform. This presentation introduces participants to a sensory/process approach to instruction known as “the kitchen drawer” model of rehabilitation. Join Seminars at Hadley as Lighthouse of the Big Bend Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist Lynda Jones demonstrates how to acquire a “kitchen drawer” full of skills one can transfer from one task to another across the lifespan.

At the conclusion of the presentation, participants will be able to:

a.. Explain key words (process, skill, task, informed choice, least restrictive adaptation) that lay the foundation for this model of instruction.
b.. Define the eleven sensory systems and give examples of activities for teaching consumers how to use the senses when performing tasks.
c.. Describe the four categories of the “kitchen drawer” model of rehabilitation and give examples of each as well as how to incorporate sensory development into the model.
d.. Develop a short task analysis for a given task using sensory systems to describe the adaptations.
e.. Explain the psychological benefits of this model of rehabilitation.
This 60 minute seminar will be moderated by Hadley’s Outreach Coordinator Shirley McCracken. A question and answer session will be included as part of the seminar. Blindness professionals and support group leaders are also welcome and encouraged to attend this presentation and discussion.

Space in this seminar is limited. Please only register if you know you are available to attend so that others are not closed out. To register for this seminar, follow this link.
