News Wire:
If I were to answer one of the most frequently asked questions posed by many
listeners to Books And Beyond, it would be, "Is there any place I can get
the book the author will be talking about on the show on which they will be
interviewed?. Many books are not available on Bard or in other formats and
are Often published by small companies or presses. My answer has often been
an unfortunate "no, I'm sorry, but I'd love to have you in the audience.
Please know you are welcome."
That is not the case on an upcoming Books And Beyond scheduled for February
11. This show is unusual in another respect. It will be one of the first if
not the very first Friday night shows we will be doing. If you have often
wanted to come but couldn't because of another commitment that night or the
next day and have this date free, please come to this special show with
Georgina Kleege. She is the author of Blind Rage a book of letters to Helen
Keller about how she feels Keller impacted on the lives of visually impaired
people. It would be hard to find even one person who has not been compared
to her, although many of us pointed out when a comparison was made that we
were blind only. Comparisons are hard to shake. Many of us developed our own
opinions on the effect Helen's life had on our own. Courageous, ahead of her
time in so many ways, isolated from the world in many others, she remains
one of the best known names in America. In her book, Georgina Kleege tells
in letters to Helen how her life impacted hers, and it is both a positive and
negative portrayal as much in life turns out to be. As you read this book,
you will no doubt disagree with some of GeorginaKleege's views, but in some
ways you will identify with some of her thinking. I would like to invite you
to download this book from the bard site and read it before this show. If
you do, please bring your thoughts and questions for what I know will be a
most fascinating and revealing discussion of a woman who has had an effect
upon how sighted people look at all of us. Below is the description from
Nls. I hope you will join us on February 11 for this discussion.
Blind Rage: Letters to Helen Keller
Kleege, Georgina. Read by Nicola DavalReading time 9 hours 40 minutes.
Blindness and Physical Handicaps
A blind professor, author of Sight Unseen (RC 48328, BR 12149), pens letters
to the deceased Helen Keller and probes for the private feelings behind
Keller's idealized public image. Kleege expresses admiration for Keller but
criticizes her as an unrealistic model. Speculates about Keller's love life
and personal emotions. 2006.
