Accessible World presents Dear John, on Friday Night at the Movies,
September 3, 2010
Newswire:
Due to technical difficulties last Friday, we will show the movie tonight.
Falling deeply in love is matched by no other experience we will ever
have.Little girls dream of finding a man they will marry and plan the
number of children they'll have. Until Mr. Right comes along, love remains a
dream that resides in the scrapbook of possibility.Savannah Lynn Curtis
dreams of a husband, home, and family but is quite happy going to college
and working for Habitat For Humanity until love walks in to her life.
John Tyree is the man of Savannah's dreams, although they couldn't be
farther apart in purpose or outlook on how to love and live life
together.Love comes when least expected. Home on leave from the army, John
falls hard. Happily for both, Savannah feels the same. AS surely as waves
break upon the shore, theirs is a once in a lifetime love.
Unlike Savannah, John is a drifter. He lives life as it comes and has no
grand goal. He hasn't a clue what to do with this newfound love. When he was
very young, his mother left. If his father thinks about that, John doesn't
know. His father doesn't talk about much. In their male only world, Life is
filled with long silences, his father's work at the post office, and passion
for coin collecting. This is normal communication in the Tyree household.
With no woman in his life, he has a lot to learn about women, Savannah in
particular.
Military and college life go on for both. They vow to see each other when
they can. Savannah waits and dreams romantic dreams. Just as they are about
to be together for good, 9-11 takes place changing their lives and destiny.
John re-enlists, love and life is again put on hold. Savannah marries Tim.
Seven years later, home at last, John and Savannah meet again. Is it too
late for the love they shared? Remember, Savannah is married. When they meet
again, what will John Tyree do? Savannah is the only woman he ever wanted.
In love it is sometimes the most courageous act of all to walk away.
Are their times when love demands it? How do you leave the only woman you
ever wanted?
In having had the opportunity to love each other, John and Savannah
experience the maturity only true love can bring. Were those long quiet
evenings with his father what they seemed? ? Was there a reason that when
revealed teaches John something about not only his father but himself as
well? John comes to a deeper understanding of his father with Savannah's
help. How does the special education degree she is working toward play a
part? If love is good, much that is good in the loving remains behind and is
the gift that lives and lasts forever.
Our August movie, Dear John, is available both on bookshare and on the
download site. If your time permits, please read this novel. It will touch
your heart and transport your emotions to a great love and to a couple who
grows in the process. How do the movie and book compare? We will talk about
that when Dear John, the movie plays on our next movie night. Bring
something cold to drink, a bowl of popcorn to eat while you watch. If you
need Kleenex, bring them too. You might need them. You will love this movie
and the book too. Nicholas Sparks is a master of romance. Come see for
yourself.
