[Missouri-l] April MCB Member of the Month

Congratulations to Marti Watson, Springfield Service Club of the Blind,
chosen Member of the Month for April. Thanks Marti for all you have done and
are doing for MCB and your affiliate. Thanks to the Springfield Service Club
for nominating Marti.

 

 We would like to nominate Marti Watson, Springfield Service Club of the
Blind, for the Member of the month Award. Marti is a long time member of the
Missouri Council of the Blind serving in the Joplin affiliate before joining
the Springfield club. Marti attended Missouri School for the Blind for
twelve years and is a graduate of the University of Missouri. She is a
certified Braille teacher for Rehab covering fifteen counties.

As a member of Friends in Art special interest group, of the American
Council of the Blind, Marti has shared her musical talents bringing joy to
others. She is always willing to accompany performers and has organized
choral groups at summer camp. Her contributions added to the performances.
She is a real American Idol in the flesh without the hype.

Marti has served MCB as secretary and board representative and worked on the
committee that completely revamped MCB's bylaws approved at the convention
in 2001.

Marti has served the Springfield Service Club in many capacities at one time
or another except for treasurer. She has worked tirelessly is obtaining
donations for Eye Research in helping to organize the white cane walk. She
has educated school children and civic groups on behalf of the blind, and on
the occasion of speaking to the Springfield City Council, made the evening
news. 

She is a lover of animals and always ready to protect them. She cares for
disable cats and finds homes for them whenever possible.

Marti epitomizes the true meaning of the word member, fully giving and
dependable. She has given so much of herself and her life to others. A team
player, Marti is always ready to help. If you need anything, call Marti and
she will make it happen. We know Marti is more than deserving of this award.

The purpose of Missouri Council of the Blind shall be to promote the general
well-being of our members and legally blind people in Missouri, and to
support or participate in other programs promoting the best interests of
legally blind people everywhere.
