Subject: [Modisabilaw] HR 4213 Fails Early Vote / Missouri BudgetAnnouncement Today

HR 4213, The American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act, had a test vote Wednesday in the U.S. Senate but failed to garner enough votes until the cost of the overall bill is reduced. The bill includes the 6-month extension of the enhanced federal Medicaid matching rate to give states an additional $24 billion in aid. For Missouri, it could mean about $300 million more in federal funds.

The bill voted upon was a $140 million package. A new scaled-down version reportedly still contains the enhanced Medicaid rate extension. It also includes an extension of jobless benefits, a delay in a scheduled Medicare rate reduction for doctors, and several other provisions. There could still be a vote on the new version this week.

------------

Here in Missouri, the Governor is scheduled today to outline up to $350 million in additional FY2011 spending reductions at 10:00 am. Budget Director, Linda Luebbering will hold a full briefing immediately after the Governor's remarks.
