Subject: [leadership] Legislative Alert: Big Week for Telecom and Quiet CarLegislation

As the weather heats up so too does Congress's action on issues that we care deeply about.

ON Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 Eastern, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science , and Transportation will be marking up their version of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 2010. It is expected that the same quiet car amendment language that was successfully attached to the House bill will be offered and ultimately included in the legislation when it passes through the committee. There is more to come so stay tuned.

ON Thursday morning at 10:00 Eastern The Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet of the House Energy and Commerce Committee will be holding a hearing to discuss H.R.3101, The Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act. I am very happy to report that ACB member and Army veteran Jesse Acosta will be testifying on behalf of the blind and visually impaired community. As many are probably aware, Jesse testified in 2008 on this same topic. With the hearing on S.3304, Equal Access to Twenty-First Century Communications Act that was held on May 26th, it seems as though that both bodies of Congress are attempting to move these bills through the legislative process .

This summer has the potential to be quite active as we get closer to the 20th anniversary of the signing of the ADA. More information on this hearing will be disseminated as the witness list and link to the hearing on line is made available.

The only reason why these peaces of legislation are moving is due to the unwavering advocacy of affiliates across the country. Please keep it up!
