When you get yur August Brille forum, be sure to read the president's message from Mitch Pomerantz called school days: dark days for blind children. It is a thoughtful and well written analysis of the problems blind children are experiencing in mainstreaming as they relate to the many challenges facing public schools in general. he talks about the lack of braille and that training of new teachers for blind children is not keeping pace with the retirement of teachers for blind and visually impaired children. He also talks about how advocates talk about how important it is for blind students to be mainstreamed so that they can make sighted students more aware of the capabilities of people with disabilities. Mitch argues strongly and correctly, I believe that blind kids don't go to school to educate other students about disability awareness, as important as this might be. They go to school to get a quality education that will prepare them to live independently and successfully. Read it and see what you think. John
