The bookstores are filled with long portrayals of what it was like to serve
in the Vietnam war. Those of us at home saw the war in all its raw and
bloody detail each night on the evening news. For the first time, we lived
through and experienced war in a new way. How did that affect those back
home? What was it like to be the wife of a man serving there? How did it
affect her hopes and dreams? What does a woman think life will be like when
her husband returns? Will he be anything like the man she married? What
adjustments will they both have to make? Is it best to talk about the
experience and then go on with your life or too much to ask? How does a
family put it behind them? Should they?
Rosalie Turner is the wife of a man who served in the Vietnam war. She
believes the voices of wives weren't heard nearly enough. In her novel,
Sisters of Valor, she addresses the subject of life back home for the
courageous women left behind.
The show can be heard beginning tomorrow morning at 1 hour UTC or tonight at
