Immediate Opening:  Assistive Technology Specialist

 

Position Purpose

Provide computer training/instruction and technology consultation to
individuals who have a vision loss or a combined hearing/vision loss.
Conduct assistive technology assessments to assist individuals to achieve
their Individual Plan goal(s) related to employment.  Ensure that assistive
and/or adaptive technology interfaces effectively with standard and/or
customized applications and programs, operating systems and various other
computer systems in varied environments.  Develop and maintain key contacts
with individuals, general public, service providers, employers and the
educational community.  

 

Position Requirements

Qualifications 

Preference is a Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology,
Rehabilitation Teaching/Counseling, Adult Continuing Education or related
field.  Adaptive/Assistive Technology and one year experience working with
individuals who have a vision loss is a plus.   

Knowledge

Strong knowledge in and ability to provide instruction in the use of
computer hardware and software programs, computer networking hardware and
software, and use of various types of assistive and adaptive technology.
Grade I and/or II Braille is a plus.  

Skills

Excellent grammar, spelling, written and verbal communication skills; well
organized; excellent time management skills; ability to take initiative and
work independently; conduct demonstrations of assistive technology; evaluate
job sites; and diagnose/resolve computer issues. Effectively use Microsoft
Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).  Career counseling, case
management, and evaluation process skills are a plus.
