[Education and Welfare] Fwd: Idea for Next Year:

While the last thing I am is a morning person, I like the current system. I
do, however, think that, of course, there needs to be more organization and
communication in general for this event, and I think a short talk in the
morning at breakfast would be highly appropriate. Simply having the chair
say a few brief words reminding our delegation of key points and important
things to remember before we set off would be ideal, I believe. Also, many
of us walked over, and organizing a group, or groups for those who would
like to walk together would be good too for cohesion and for safety.
Finally, I think the Monday meeting is very important, especially to make
certain that we get everyone on the same page. It is key that we have a
strong, cohesive presence at the capital, and making sure that everyone gets
their questions answered and is clear on our stances is critical. Since
there are still many folks who do not use or have email, and since not
everyone can keep up with all the messages on the lists all the time
(especially when they are unclear or contradictory at times), we cannot
simply rely on the email listserve to keep everyone informed and on the same
page for MCB Legislative Days.

Just my two cents.

Regards,
Gretchen

I'm not particularly fond of 6:30 breakfasts. However, it was very well
attended and got people off to a running start in the morning. For those
who don't want to go, do your own thing. But, it seems pretty clear that
most people value the breakfast.

Also, the face-to-face afternoon session is critical to success the next
day.
The spending of a certain amount of time and energy on Capitol Day is simply
a necessary part of being on this committee.

and, timely, on conference calls, we dont need all the hoopla of the day
before presenting our legislative imperatives to the House and Senate. All
we need to do is brief on any updates or last minute issues in our afternoon
meeting at the hotel.

lend itself to this. The Legislative Chair will focus on legislative issues
and how they affect the blindand our interactions with the representatives.
The office will handle the administrative details of packets and mailings
and emailings.

individually want to before taking cabs to the Capitol. If I hadnt gone ot
the 6:00 AM breakfast at the hotel, I would have worked out and taken a cab
to local hole in the wall so I could catch Jeff Citys workaday chatter
before bounding over to the Capitol.

course, I must admit Im not a bigtime formal guy in the first place. AS
long as we get the job done, thats what counts.
