All,
When speaking to your representative please be brief and to the
point. Please don't engage in a lengthy conversation about the process or
about what the media is saying, but only that you are opposed to the
Medicaid cut. I and others are afraid that if we try and corner some of
these legislators on why they voted the way they did or what their opinion
on this issue is, it will only hurt our cause. So again, please be brief,
courteous and to the point.
Thanks,

Subject: [Education and Welfare] conversation with Myra in Jeanne Kirkton's
office
All,
I did speak with Rep. Jeanne Kirkton's office to gain their perspective
where they stand now that the Medicaid cuts have been reorted in the media.
Myra, Rep. Kirkton's legislative aid, said that none of the Democrats were
give any notice on the specifics of the cut proposal ahead of time. She
wasn't sure if even all the Republicans were either. I told her that from my
perspective having talked to several members' offices, I understand that
it's true not all the Republicans fully understood the proposed cuts to
State Medical.
AS many of you know, the Budget Committee has canceled its meeting for
tomorrow, anticipating that the Appropriations' presentation willhave been
completed. Debate will mostlikely next week when the Budget Committe will
have heard from all the necessary agencies and services that could be
affected by the proposal.
Myra also told me that, in the event, debate takes place on this issue on
March 6, we are more than, welcome, as always during House Sessions, to
watch from the fourth floor as proceedings take place.
I will be back with more summaries of conversation as I complete tehm for
us.
