Hi, everyone.
Below my signature are Marty Exline's remarks on some Missouri House and Senate actions include the now infamous SB592. Folks, this stuff important for blind and physically disabled individuals. And, we have the joy of speaking on so many people's behalf as MCB. Check it out below. Let's discuss.
DAvid Rosenkoetter
Kansas City, MO
HB 1219 – Employment Discrimination
The bill was debated on the House floor and passed yesterday by a vote of 89-70.
This is the House version of SB592 that would make it more difficult for individuals
to prevail in court on claims of employment discrimination. The bill also caps damages
based on the number of employees that an employer has. The bill moves on to the
Senate. SB592 was passed by the Senate on Wednesday by a vote of 25-8, and moves
on to the House. It appears that one version or the other will pass both chambers.
Yesterday’s House passage of HB1219 fell short of the two-thirds margin that would
be needed to override a veto. The Governor vetoed a similar bill last year.
HB 1104 – Voter ID
The House also passed HB1104 yesterday requiring voters to show a photo ID before
casting a ballot. The bill passed by a vote of 101-54, short of the margin needed
to overcome a veto. The Governor vetoed the voter ID bill that passed in last year’s
session.
