Missouri Council of the Blind Job Opening

Position Title:

Administrative Assistant

Reports To:

Executive Director

Agency Background/Summary:

The purpose of the Missouri Council of the Blind (MCB) is to promote the general well-being of its members and legally blind people in Missouri, and to support or participate in other programs promoting the best interests of legally blind people everywhere. MCB administers several programs including Special Services, Health Benefits, Adaptive Technology, Educational Scholarships, Youth Services, and Summer Camp. These programs play a vital role in assisting blind individuals living with vision loss.

Position Summary:

This is a full-time position with primary responsibility to provide administrative support to the Executive Director, the Director of Development, the Board President and the organization's programs..

Education and Experience:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Training in business, secretarial science or closely-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute, or completion of a Secretary, Administrative or Executive Assistant program of at least 12 months duration preferred.
  3. Nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
  4. 2-4 years clerical experience.
  5. Experience working with association management software and/or databases helpful.
  6. Familiarity with basic bookkeeping/accounting principles.
  7. Meeting and event planning experience helpful.
  8. Willingness to attend Annual Convention. Other occasional travel may be required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  2. Ability to produce professional documents with minimal amount of errors.
  3. Ability and willingness to proof and/or edit documents.
  4. Ability to handle a wide range of administrative and executive support-related tasks.
  5. Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  6. Professional member/customer service skills.
  7. Expert level verbal and written communication skills, including grammar and punctuation.
  8. Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Ability to perform mail merges.
  9. Ability to operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, typewriters, copiers, calculators and fax machines.
  10. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Representative Duties:

  1. Screen and forward incoming calls and visitors.
  2. Open and distribute incoming mail and special deliveries.
  3. Organization and maintenance of files and documents.
  4. Coordinate travel arrangements.
  5. Maintain office supply inventory by anticipating needed supplies, evaluating new office products, placing and expediting orders and verifying receipt,
  6. Develop and maintain database of members.
  7. Organize and assist with meetings.
  8. Communicate internally and externally with individuals at many different levels.
  9. Maintain proper flow of information.
  10. Assist Executive Director, Director of Development, President and Board of Directors as required.
  11. Other duties as assigned.
